Situated in Black River, these incredible falls reach a height of around 290m, making them the largest falls within Mauritius. This waterfall is also known as Seven Cascades, due to its seven smaller waterfalls that make up the larger falls. Activities to enjoy here include hiking, canyoning, cliff jumping, bird watching and swimming.
Ilot Gabriel Beach
On Gabriel Island, which can be accessed from Grand Bay by boat or catamaran, there is a delightful beach to be found. A visit to this beach is sure to be a highlight for those who love discovering lesser-known attractions. As it is less popular than other islands, the beach is often quiet and peaceful, making it ideal for a few hours of relaxing in the sun.
Seven Coloured Earths
At Chamarel, one of the most incredible sights is without a doubt the Seven Coloured Earths. As the name implies, this structure is colourful and truly amazing to see. The sands have sadly faded over the years due to erosion, but they are still fascinating. Make sure that your camera is fully charged!
The Hindu statues at Grand Bassin near Port Louis are also worth a visit. The famous temple of Lord Shiva is located here, along with vibrantly coloured statues and the temples of Hanuman and Lakshmi.
Trou Aux Cerfs
Trou Aux Cerfs is a German word that translates to ‘hole of the deer’. This is where ancient volcanoes once erupted. The last eruption took place around the year 1200. To this day, many ancient trees can be found around and even in the giant hole.
Champ de Mars
If you’re a fan of horse racing, be sure to head to Champ de Mars in Port Louis. This beautiful race course is where a number of events are held over the course of each year. It’s a fun day out for adults and kids alike.
