It is not always necessary to pre-book excursions. When visiting big cities in Europe, we would recommend pre booking your city tours and day trips to surroundings as availability might be a problem closer to the time. Most of the day tours also does not operate every day, so pre booking will allow you to plan your excursions according to your itinerary.

We do however strongly recommend to not pre book your excursions when visiting tropical destinations. Most of the excursions are weather permitting and being in the same destination for a week or longer, you don’t know beforehand when you would want to do what. You might just pre-book a catamaran cruise out at sea on the only rainy day on the island.

When visiting Mauritius for instance, you will be met by a friendly tour operator who has a permanent desk at the hotel’s reception. After check in you can make an appointment to see them and they will explain exactly what excursions are available and what the costs are. It is best to then book your excursions as you will have a better idea of what the weather will be like and having all the options in front of you, you will be able to make a more informed decision of what you want to see and do.
