Beaches
Pereybere Beach is a great place to swim, with clean water that is not too deep and not too many heavy waves. This beach is also sheltered against the wind and family-friendly. It can get busy, especially on weekends. La Cuvette Beach meanwhile is tucked away between Grand Bay Beach and Pereybere. This beach is often quieter, with a selection of picnic spots, eateries,and restrooms available, and sunbeds for hire. Grand Bay beach is also worth a visit.
Shopping
Grand Baie Bazaar is the best place to find locally made items, ranging from spices to decor, handbags, clothing and jewellery. It is fairly small, and can get crowded, but often offers bargains. Then, there is also Sunset Boulevard, a trendy shopping village that is home to a range of tourist and high-end shops, cafes and other things to see and do.
Snorkelling & Scuba
There are quite a few scuba diving schools and centres, including a few in Pereybere. If you are a PADI diver with a license, you can book a dive through a local school. If you are keen to get your license, you can also get qualified in Grand Bay fairly easily with a short resort course. Snorkelling is excellent in Pointe Aux Canonniers, but you can even explore the waters off local beaches. Offshore, Gunner’s Quoin and Flat Island are surrounded by waters that are teeming with hammerhead sharks and big game fish such as tuna.
