What to Do
Far quieter and more unspoiled than busier regions such as the east coast or west coast, the south coast lends itself to plenty of relaxation, unwinding and nature enjoyment. This is the place to be if you are looking forward to peaceful beaches, lush nature parks, waterfalls, fascinating villages and other off-the-beaten-path attractions. From swimming, snorkelling and scuba diving to hiking, lying on the beach and visiting museums, the pace of life here is laid-back and easy-going.
What to See
Attractions in this part of the island include the Vanilla Nature Park (La Vanille), which is home to a number of crocodiles and reptiles along with monkeys, tortoise and birds. Blue Bay Marine Park offers some of the best scuba diving and snorkelling in its protected waters. Beau Camp, a short boat ride from Ile Aux Cerfs, offers an adventure playground. In Souillac, you will find attractions such as Robert Edouard Hart Museum and Rochester Falls, one of the loveliest waterfalls on the island. Other places to visit include Bois Chéri Tea Plantation, Fort Frederick Hendrick and La Vallée des Couleurs.
