Thinking about 2018 winter holidays? As we slowly begin the transition from summer to autumn, many will be daydreaming about where to go during the winter holiday season.
Start Planning Your 2018 Winter Holidays
Whether you are starting to think about your annual winter school holiday break, or you are hoping to enjoy a mid-year escape, honeymoon or well-deserved leave, there are many ways to enjoy the 2018 winter holidays.
Here are some of our top tips on where to go and what to do for your upcoming 2018 winter holidays.
Try a tropical getaway
You don’t have to venture too far away to enjoy a tropical holiday this winter. Destinations such as Zanzibar, Mauritius, the Maldives, and the Seychelles are all within easy reach. For South African travellers, Zanzibar is the closest, lying just off the coast of East Africa. Mauritius is not too much further, however, offering a diverse range of resorts, attractions, and activities. Winter can often be one of the most pleasant times to escape to tropical paradise, with milder temperatures, plenty of sunshine, and warm Indian Ocean beaches to explore. This time of year is also affordable, with low and mid season rates on offer.
Swap winter for summer
Just because it is winter in the southern hemisphere, it does not mean you can’t enjoy a summer holiday in the northern hemisphere. Head to the USA between May and August to take advantage of hot summer months, sunshine, and clear weather. Although this time of year can be busy, you will be able to enjoy high temperatures, long days, balmy nights, and a huge range of things to do. Disney World is especially magical during the summer months, making the United States a great choice for the June/July school holidays.
Plan around the season
Before you get too excited, though, we strongly suggest taking a bit of time to plan. Some destinations are at their best during very specific seasons. For example, a ski holiday would be ideal for a northern hemisphere winter, especially between December and February. During June and July, Alpine regions experience their peak summer months, which is not always ideal for skiing. Likewise, some tropical destinations experience tropical storms during certain parts of the year. Doing a bit of research before you make your final decision will go a long way in helping you plan.
You can still enjoy a rewarding holiday, of course – wherever you go, and whichever time you go. With a bit of planning, you can enjoy a dream break for your 2018 winter holidays.
